BATON ROUGE -- Services are pending for Brace Godfrey, Jr., lawyer, developer and founder of 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge. He died Saturday at age 58.
Godfrey, who grew up in Ville Platte, was past chairman of the Downtown Development District Committee, former chairman of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber and a senior staff attorney for the Louisiana Senate.
Survivors include his wife Cynthia.
Robert Ezell, horseman
LORANGER -- Services for Robert Ezell, former president of the Louisiana Cutting Horse Assn., were Monday. He died March 10 in a car accident at age 66.
Ezell, a Coast Guard veteran and a building contractor, won many honors as a cowboy, including third place at the Bayer Ward Select National Cutting Horse Championships.
Survivors include his wife Sandra, a son and a daughter.
Arrangements were by Resthaven, Baton Rouge.
Thomas Collens, Jr., mortgage banker
COVINGTON -- Services will be Wednesday for Thomas W. Collens, Jr., former president of Sears Mortgage Co. He died March 13 at age 92.
Collens, great-great-grandson of Covington’s founder, was a US State Department former vice counsel to the Belgian Congo (Zaire).
Survivors include his wife Joyce, a son and a daughter.
Arrangements are by E.J. Fielding.
Evelyn Nelson, newspaper owner
COUSHATTA --Services will be Tuesday for Evelyn Nelson, journalist and long-time co-owner of the Coushatta Citizen. She died March 13 at age 84.
She worked at the Pentagon during World War II, then attended LSU, graduating with honors in journalism.
She and her husband Gordon purchased the Coushatta paper, which under their guidance gained a national reputation for its fight against the Ku Klux Klan.
Survivors include a son and a daughter.
Arrangements were by Rockette-Nettles.
