It’s been quite a year for Erath’s Johnathan Toups.

He started the year winning a Region II Indoor State title in the pole vault during the indoor season. Saturday, Toups added an Outdoor title to the mix.

The senior cleared 15-6 to win the Class 3A pole vault title at the LHSAA Outdoor Track and Field Meet at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium in Baton Rouge.

“It feels good,” Toups said.

Do the indoor and outdoor titles compare?

“I jumped higher at the outdoor meet,” Toups said. “But there was some good competition at the indoor meet too. They both were good.

“It was just nice to be able to get it done Saturday with my family and everyone watching.”

Toups won the State title ahead of Erath teammate Jake Renard, who vaulted 14-0 in his second-place effort. Another Bobcat, Cole Bourque, placed fourth in the 400-meter dash (49.88). North Vermilion’s Torrian Lollis also earned a fourth-place finish, landing a triple jump of 42-6 3/4.

North Vermilion’s Morgan Breaux came in third in both the 100 (12.23) and 200 (25.39).  Fellow North Vermilion  Lady Patriot Precious Lollis placed third in the shot put (35-11).

Erath’s Lauren Lange earned fourth and fifth place finishes in the 1600 (5:51.65) and 3200 (12:49.11), respectively.
