RAYNE – Just a year removed from a stellar senior season at Rayne High School, former Wolves running back Broc Menard will be suiting up once again.

Only this time, he will be getting paid to do it.

The shifty running back/receiver recently inked a contract with the Acadiana Mudbugs of the Southern Indoor Football League.

“Brock is very quick,” said Mudbugs’ offensive coordinator Derek Landry. “He is a decent route runner and he has excellent hands.”

Menard helped guide Rayne to one of its best seasons in recent history in 2007. The 5-foot-8, 155-pound utility player rushed for 1,154 yards and 15 touchdowns in leading the Wolves to a 9-1 season. He also had hauled in six passes for 138 yards and one touchdown.

Following his senior campaign Menard was named the District 5-AAA team as well as being the All-Acadia Parish Offensive Player of the Year and earning honorable mention status on the Class AAA All-State squad.

Menard joins former Notre Dame standout Dustin Martin on the Mudbugs’ roster. Martin, a 1998 graduate of Notre Dame, earned All-District and All-Parish honors as a center for the Pios during his prep career.

“Dustin has really good feet and he uses his hands well when blocking,” said Landry. “He is very quick for a big guy and he has very good field awareness.”

The Mudbugs, coached by former New Orleans Saints quarterback John Fourcade, began minicamp last week and will continue to workout on Tuesdays and Thursdays until March when the roster will be finalized.

The Mudbugs’ play a 12-game schedule with six home games slated for Blackham Coliseum. They open the regular season on April 17 in Texas against the Austin Turfcats. Their first home game will be Saturday, April 25 against the Texas Pirates.
