Task Force make three arrests

The Vermilion / Municipal Narcotics Task Force made three arrests in the past few days related to illicit narcotic activity within the parish.

• On Oct. 18 agents with the task force were working street level disruption of illegal drugs when they noticed a subject that had outstanding warrants standing in a known high drug activity area. Agents approached Jarrod Gage (DOB 5-17-79) of 514 Dutel St in Abbeville and advised him that he was under arrest for the outstanding felony warrants. While making the arrests, the agents located more suspected marijuana on Gage. Gage was taken in to custody and charged with two counts of Distribution of Marijuana and possession of Marijuana. Total bond was set at $81,000.

• Continuing the street level sales disruption on the same date agents received information that illegal drug activity was taking place out of a vehicle located at the corner of Schlessinger St and Martin Luther King Drive in Abbeville. Upon agents locating the said vehicle, an investigation and search yielded the suspected marijuana inside of the vehicle in question. Darren Williams (DOB 2-1-86) of 11525 Grosse Isle Rd Abbeville was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

•Williams was subsequently arrested on several unrelated charges for multiple counts of contempt of court warrants and unauthorized use of a movable. Total bond was set at $23,500.00

On Oct. 19, agents were able to arrest a suspected marijuana supplier to the Kaplan area. Agents made contact with one Steven Dial (DOB 6-19-93) of Rayne and negotiate the sale of approximately a half pound of marijuana. Dial met agents at an undisclosed location and sold the suspected marijuana to an undercover agent. Dial was arrested on the scene for distribution of marijuana. Total bond was set at $20,000.00.

Sheriff Mike Couvillon, Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza, Abbeville Chief of Police Tony Hardy, commends the Narcotics Task Force for a job well done.

Finally, Sheriff Couvillon would like to applaud the concerned citizens of Vermilion Parish for their awareness and assistance in helping the Sheriff’s Office in fighting the war on illegal drugs.
